Police: Clerk Fought Back When Man In Skull Mask Held Up Brooklyn Deli

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for a man who held up a Crown Heights, Brooklyn deli this past weekend while clad in a mask showing a yellow skull.

The robbery happened around 12:20 a.m. Saturday at the Three Star Deli, at 536 Ralph Ave. in Brooklyn, police said. The suspect walked in, pointed a gun at the clerk, and demanded money, police said.

The 21-year-old victim said no, and a brief struggle over the gun ensued, police said. The gun went off, and a shot was fired toward the wall, police said.

The victim was not injured, and the robber left empty-handed, police said. He was last seen headed north on Ralph Avenue with a gun, police said.

The suspect was last seen wearing tan slacks, a black coat, and the black and yellow face mask depicting a skull, police said.

Police have released a surveillance photo.
