Police: Carjacker Swiped 2 Vehicles, Struck Pedestrian, Fired Gun At Man In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens man is both an alleged carjacker and a bad driver.

Clinton Lawson, 30, went on a wild crime spree in Brooklyn on Saturday that included stealing two cars at gunpoint, striking a pedestrian with a vehicle, firing shots at someone and crashing into multiple parked cars, police said.

According to authorities, Lawson carjacked a Toyota Corolla at Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue in Crown Heights around 5:25 p.m. before hitting a 75-year-old pedestrian and a parked Mercedes Benz at Kingston Avenue, about four blocks away, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

The angry owner of the Mercedes confronted the suspect, who then fired his gun at the 22-year-old man, missing him, police said. Lawson then fled on foot and carjacked another vehicle, a Nissan Xterra, at Sterling Place and Brooklyn Avenue, cops said. He then crashed that vehicle into two additional parked cars at Rogers Avenue and ran away on foot again, according to police.

Police found Lawson trying to blend into a crowd of people standing near a residence in Crown Heights. A woman who lived nearby said she saw the man inside her home and yelled at him to get out.

"When he came in, I'm like, 'What are you doing here?'" the woman told Stern. "He like, 'Oh my God, I'm scared. The cops are out there. I'm loaded.' I seen the gun in his hand. That's what made me come out and get my cousin and tell him to go get him."

Police said they searched the area where Lawson was apprehended and found a .25-caliber RG semiautomatic handgun.

Lawson is facing numerous charges, including first-degree robbery, burglary and assault with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon.

The pedestrian who was struck was taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
