Police Believe Woman Was Struck Intentionally In Bronx Hit-And-Run

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was left in critical condition Monday afternoon after being struck in by a hit-and-run driver, police said.

Police believe the woman was struck intentionally.

The 50-year-old woman was struck by a car as its driver made a U-turn at Bruckner Boulevard and 138th Street in the Port Morris section of the Bronx.

Police sources told CBS 2 the victim had an exchange of words with the driver who came close to running her down in the street.

Afterward, the driver made the U-turn and apparently struck the victim on purpose before speeding away, source said.

The woman pulled a friend out of the vehicle's path before she herself was struck, sources said.

The woman was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, where she was reported in critical condition, police said.

Police told CBS 2 they were investigating the incident as an intentional hit-and-run.
