Police Arrest 2 Long Island Men On Heroin Charges

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - New York state police say they've arrested two men on charges of distributing thousands of bags of heroin on eastern Long Island.

Jeffrey Iarocci and Michael Wehle were arrested Tuesday after state police say they executed a search warrant at their Selden home.

The pair was arraigned Wednesday in district court in Central Islip. Bail for each was set at $50,000.

Whele was represented by an attorney for Legal Aid, which does not comment on pending cases. Iarocci's attorney did not immediately return a telephone call for comment.

Investigators say they observed a high volume of drug activity at the Selden home.

Because of statistics purporting an increased use in drugs, New York has put up a new website with information about heroin and prescription opioid addiction and where to go for help.

According to state officials, admissions last year statewide for abuse and addiction treatment for those drugs rose to more than 89,000 with the largest increase among people between 18 and 24.
