Police: Armed Thief Fires Shot Inside Roosevelt Home

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island are investigating a brazen break-in involving an armed suspect.

Police said a thief kicked in the door to a rear bedroom of a home in Roosevelt where a couple was sleeping and fired one shot from a handgun. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The 36-year-old man and 39-year-old woman were not hit by the gunfire.

Police said when the male victim tried to tackle the suspect, the gunman struck him in the head with the gun.

The victim suffered a laceration to the head.

Nassau County police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
