Police: 3-Year-Old Girl Beaten To Death In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police in New York City are investigating after a three-year-old girl who was severely beaten died and her five-year-old brother was also assaulted.

They say the Jeida Torres was discovered unconscious and unresponsive at about 3:50 p.m. Saturday in an apartment in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood.

A fire department spokesman says the child was rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest where she was pronounced dead.

Police say her older brother had bruises on his body. He's in stable condition at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

Police say they have made an arrest and charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
