Small Plane Lands Between Cars On Busy Sunrise Highway In Suffolk County

BROOKHAVEN (CBSNewYork) – A small plane made an emergency landing Wednesday between cars on a busy Sunrise Highway in Suffolk County.

The Cessna C206 aircraft was traveling from Brookhaven Airport in Shirley, New York to Eagles Nest Airport in West Creek, New Jersey when it went down shortly before 1 p.m. near exit 57 in Yaphank.

The pilot told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall that he managed to land the plane between the cars in front and behind him and even went under an overpass.

Neither he nor the plane suffered a scratch.

His family and friends quickly arrived to make sure he was OK, Hall reported.

It's unclear what went wrong with the aircraft.

Hours earlier, a helicopter made an emergency landing in the waters off Gilgo Beach, which is also in Suffolk County. Shane McMahon, the son of World Wrestling Entertainment's Vince McMahon, and the other person on board were not hurt.
