Plane Heading To LaGuardia Has Close Call With Drone

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- That was close.

A passenger plane en route to LaGuardia Airport Friday came very close to a drone, according to the FAA.

The flight crew of Shuttle America Flight 2708 reported climbing 200 feet to avoid an unmanned aircraft while on final approach to LaGuardia at around 11 a.m.

The crew of the Embraer E170 reported that the drone was flying in the vicinity of Prospect Park in Brooklyn at an altitude of about 2,700 feet.

The drone incident happened a day after the FAA said five pilots reported that a green laser was pointed at their planes while flying over Long Island and New Jersey near John F. Kennedy Airport.

The FAA is investigating both the drone and laser incidents.
