Work Now Underway To Turn Pier 42 Into Public Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Work is underway to turn an industrial pier on the Lower East Side into a public park.

City officials and community leaders were on hand Thursday for the groundbreaking of the parkland at Pier 42.

It's located on Montgomery and South streets.

The site, a former shipping pier, is approximately eight acres and will feature a playground, recreation deck and sports fields.
