'Phantom Of The Opera' Hits Broadway Milestone With 12,000th Performance

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Broadway's 'Phantom of the Opera,' will hit another milestone Monday, as the production takes the stage for the 12,000th time.

'Phantom of the Opera' opened on January 26, 1988 -- almost 29 years ago. It is the longest-running show in Broadway history.

Aside from New York, there are current productions in six other cities, including in London, Budapest, Prague, Stockholm and Sapporo, Japan. There is also a North American tour, which visits cities across the United States.

Worldwide, the show  has grossed more than $6 billion -- more than large-scale movie blockbusters like "Titanic," or "Star Wars."
