NY Congressman Peter King: Yankees Shouldn't Celebrate A-Rod's 660th Homer
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is currently sitting on 658 career home runs, two behind Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time list.
He's due a $6 million bonus when he reaches the milestone, though the Yankees reportedly don't want to pay it.
New York Congressman Peter King agrees that the Bombers shouldn't celebrate A-Rod's feat.
"I think they're right, because it's obvious that so many of his home runs were tainted," the Republican told TMZ Sports. "I think it would be wrong to be celebrating ... since for all we know, hundreds of those home runs probably occurred when he was taking steroids."
The 14-time All-Star and three-time American League MVP was suspended for all of last season for ties to performance-enhancing drugs.
"You know, the great thing about America is that everyone gets to express their views," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday when told of King's comment, according to the New York Daily News.
The 39-year-old A-Rod, who isn't in the lineup on Thursday for New York's series finale against Detroit, has gotten off to a fast start for the Yankees. In 15 games he's hitting .265 (13-for-49) with three doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs. His on-base percentage is .419.
