Permanent Mission Of Saudi Arabia To UN Evacuated After Suspicious Package

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations has been evacuated after a report of a suspicious package received in the mail.

Police received a call at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday after the package was delivered to the mission. The package contained some type of painting, papers and a metal object that the mission's security could not identify. The bomb squad was requested.

The building is located in the United Nations plaza on the east side of Manhattan.

The Saudi ambassador to the UN, Abdallah al-Moualimi, confirmed to The Associated Press that the mission was evacuated and being inspected.

Police say they are testing the package. The UN complex was not affected.
