People Hit The Shopping Outlets On Memorial Day Amid Cloudy, Cool Beach Conditions

ASBURY PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork)--- Memorial Day is considered the unofficial start of summer, but today's weather looked and felt more like fall at the Jersey Shore. Beaches weren't busy, but the malls were.

It was a cloudy, foggy, cool and windy day down at shore, CBS2's Elise Finch reported. In Asbury Park, the beach was almost empty and most of the boardwalk was too.

There were far more people on Jenkins boardwalk in Point Pleasant, but the conditions weren't much better with many visitors wearing sweatshirts. Even the lifeguards who were on duty had barely anybody to watch. There were only a few dozen people set up on the sand and CBS2 didn't see any of them actually go in the icy water.

The Jersey Shore Premium Outlets were packed after people ditched their beach plans altogether.
