Penn Station Elevator Fire Causes NJ TRANSIT, LIRR Delays

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire in a freight elevator at Penn Station caused delays on both NJ TRANSIT and Long Island Rail Road trains during the Friday evening commute.

The fire broke out in the elevator near an Amtrak track around 6:45 p.m., officials told CBS2.

NJ TRANSIT had delays of an hour as a result, but service had returned to normal by 9 p.m.

LIRR service was delayed for 20 minutes for a period of time, officials told CBS2.

No one was injured in the incident.
