Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Truck On Long Island Expressway

MELVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Suffolk County police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a truck on the Long Island Expressway in Melville.

Police say a box truck was traveling in the far right lane when an unidentified pedestrian entered the lane and was struck. It happened just east of exit 49 on the LIE at about 2 p.m. Sunday

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, Humberto Maldonado, 49, of Brentwood, was not injured.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
