Napier Academy In Paterson To Be Closed Friday After Fire

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A school in Paterson, New Jersey will be closed Friday, following a fire in a classroom.

The fire on Thursday affected one classroom at the Napier Academy/School 4, according to a notice from Paterson Public Schools.

The staff and principal evacuated all the students to a nearby school, and no one was injured, the notice said.

But there was considerable damage to the one affected classroom, and a smell of smoke permeated the surrounding area, the notice said.

The facilities team began the cleanup process Thursday evening, and work will continue throughout the weekend, the notice said.

Because of that, the school will be closed on Friday, the notice said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Thursday.
