Parents Remain Concerned Following Lead Contamination In Schools' Drinking Water

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork)-- Some parents in Paterson are less than pleased after the school district discovered lead contamination in drinking water at 14 schools in 2015 and they were never informed.

The Paterson School District tested nearly 600 water sources in 45 schools and 25 of those sources had elevated levels of lead while three of the schools had even high readings than the rest, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.

While water fountains and faucets were quickly repaired or taken out of commission all together, parents were never notified much to the dismay of many of them who say they should have been told.

There's no federal or state requirement for schools to test their water, but Paterson chose to do so and is testing every school this year.
