Paterson Father Denies Role In 2013 Death Of Infant Son

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man denies his role in the death of his infant son.

The 21-year-old Paterson resident pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, child endangerment and sexual assault during an initial court appearance on Thursday.

Authorities say there were signs of trauma to the 2-month-old, who died in October 2013.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office says the man is charged with sexual assault because officials say he impregnated the baby's mother when she was between 13 and 16 years old and he was at least four years older.

The infant's juvenile mother is charged with delinquency in the death.

The Associated Press isn't naming the suspect because doing so could potentially identify the mother. The news cooperative doesn't identify potential victims of sex crimes without their consent.
