Police Uncover Cockfighting Operation In Basement Of Paterson, N.J. Bar

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A routine inspection at a bar unearthed an illegal cockfighting operation in Paterson, New Jersey.

Police were looking around the New Ranchi City Bar when they heard noises coming from the basement.

As soon as they opened the door to go downstairs, there was a burst of extremely hot and foul smelling air.

Police said they found three live roosters along with a fighting ring, a gun, drug paraphernalia and a gambling ledger.

The owner and bartender were arrested.
