1 Woman Dead, Another Injured In Long Island House Fire

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was killed and her adult daughter was burned in a Long Island house fire Friday morning.

Emergency responders were sent to a home on Ohls Street near North Clinton Avenue around 9:45 a.m.

Suffolk County police say 65-year-old Elisa Doughty was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's 34-year-old daughter, Kristle Doughty, was burned over 20% of her body. She was rescued on the ground floor by firefighters and taken to a local hospital.

North Patchogue fire chief Thomas Wassmer says she was possibly burned when she was trying to go down the stairs.

Suffolk Police say they fire does not appear to be criminal in nature, but likely started in the basement where the women lived.

According to police, the basement apartment with a small kitchen was illegal.

They're also looking into complaints by neighbors of alleged drug dealing out of the house.
