PSE&G Works To Restore Power In Passaic, NJ Following Equipment Failure

PASSAIC, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An equipment failure left thousands without power in Passaic, New Jersey late Friday night.

PSE&G officials said the equipment failure occurred just after 7:45 p.m. at a substation on Oak Street.

At its peak, 7,000 customers were without power. As of 10 p.m., there were 2,500 outages reported.

The mayor told CBS2's Jessica Layton there was a problem with seven circuits at the Oak Street substation. It was not known if the problem was directly related to weather, but the dark streets did not make it any easier to drive in the rain.

PSE&G said power was gradually coming back on by approximately 11 p.m.
