Van Saun Park's Winter Wonderland Provides Fun For The Whole Family

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A new winter attraction is providing fun to the whole family in Bergen County.

As CBS2's Jessica Layton reported, Black Friday brought a line of families awaiting the opening of the bran new attraction, and it had nothing to do with shopping.

The magical transformation of Van Saun Park in Paramus had 5-year-old twins Zoe and Christian absolutely giddy. The joy on their parents' faces was just as priceless.

"It's the best. Nothing better as a parent than to see the kids happy," Al Dicanio said.

"We've always come to Van Saun in the warmer weather, but winter came, we never came here. It was a ghost town," Kristin Rosenstein said.

Now, the winter wonderland -- featuring a twinkling candy cane entrance-way, a carousel, a beer stand for moms and dads, and ice skating, is creating fun for the whole family.

"Usually you have to go to New York City to see the tree in Bryant Park to do all this with the kids," Kathleen Stephens said.

That was so much of the motivation when the county came up with the idea in the first place.

"There's nothing like this anywhere around here, so this gives people a chance to bring families together," County Executive, Jim Tedesco said.

That's what the Stephens family was doing.

"It's my mom, dad, three kids, sister, her boyfriend," Stephens said.

They're focusing on something other than the material items that get so much attention this time of year.
