Gillibrand: CDC Should Issue Guidelines For Opioid Prescriptions
MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will be on Long Island Friday, calling for stricter limits on opioid prescriptions.
Gillibrand's legislation would require the Center for Disease Control to issue guidelines for the process of prescribing opioids for pain.

On March 27, doctors in New York State will begin to file opioid perscriptions electronically, under a new mandate aimed to put tighter control on prescription distribution as well as streamline the process.
Prescription opioid medications include Oxycodone, Vicodin, hydrocodone and methodone, among others. Opioids can be habit-forming and have been linked to drug addiction.
The senator will be joined by Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas in Massapequa to help push Gillibrand's legislation.
