O'Neill Officially Sworn In As Police Commissioner
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Commissioner James O'Neill took the ceremonial oath for his post on Monday, although he has actually been on the job since the weekend and has already presided over a high-profile crime.
O'Neill, a 58-year-old native of Flatbush, Brooklyn, has been with the department for more than 33 years – beginning as a transit officer.
For the past two years, he had served as Chief of Department.
He is the city's 43rd police commissioner.
Within his first day at the helm, O'Neill was dealing with a bombing that left 29 people injured on 23rd Street in Chelsea, and a second pressure cooker bomb that was found four blocks away.
