Woman Dead, Teen Critical After Violent Major Deegan Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An Orange County woman is dead and a teenage girl is in critical condition after a violent crash on the Major Deegan Expressway Saturday morning.

Police say a Ford Econoline slammed into the back of a truck on the southbound side of the Deegan near Brooke Avenue in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx just before 7 a.m.

EMS responded and pronounced the woman behind the wheel of the van, identified as 30-year-old Jennifer Parisella of Middletown, dead at the scene.

Three other passengers were inside the van, including a 14-year-old girl who was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition.

A 28-year-old man and 12-year-old boy were also in the wreck and were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.

Authorities say the 42-year-old driver of the Volvo Tractor the van struck from behind stayed at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police have not made any arrests however, the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating what led to the deadly crash.
