One Of Derek Jeter's Favorite NYC Restaurants Paying Back Loyalty With Foundation Pledge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Derek Jeter was a rookie when he found a friend in restaurateur Nino Selimaj.

The future Yankees superstar became a regular customer at Nino's Restaurant on the Upper East Side before games, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported. Jeter even tried his hand at making a dish, now called "Chicken Jeter."

"It's good luck," Selimaj said. "That day, he had two hits, and they won the game."

Now Selimaj is paying back the loyalty with gift certificates to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation for every hit, home run or grand slam the retiring future Hall of Famer has for the rest of the season.

Selimaj wants to celebrate the athlete and the person.

"Not only Nino and Yankees, but I believe New York City is lucky to have Derek Jeter," he said. "We should have some more Derek Jeters."

Nino said Jeter may wear No. 2, but he's really No. 1.

The Yankees' longtime captain will be honored on Derek Jeter Day before Sunday's game at Yankee Stadium against the Royals.
