On The Fan: Asst. Trainer 'Real Confident' In California Chrome's Chances

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- In advance of California Chrome's bid to become the first horse in 36 years to win the Triple Crown, WFAN host Mike Francesa did his show from Belmont Park on Friday.

Francesa was joined by a host of top-notch guests on the day before the Belmont Stakes, one of whom was Alan Sherman. The son of legendary Art Sherman, Alan is the assistant trainer for California Chrome.

With history on the line, Sherman is feeling good about his horse's chances ahead of the last leg of the Triple Crown.

"I'm real confident," Sherman told Francesa. "I am. Just the way he's been training on this track. Obviously he hasn't run on it, but he's been training great over it."

California Chrome is a 3-to-5 favorite to win the race, and the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner will break from the No. 2 post.

"I feel pretty good," Sherman told Francesa. "I'll start getting a little nervous tomorrow. Race day, I'll be pacing around a little bit. But this horse handles everything so well -- the crowds and everything. He's just been so good, his temperament is so good with all that. He's kind of a ham with the cameras. He doesn't get stirred up about anything, so I'm looking forward to it."
