Officials: Woman Gives Birth Aboard Jordan-NYC Flight

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 33-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on a flight to New York from Jordan, airport officials said.

It happened over the Atlantic aboard Royal Jordanian Flight J261 at around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

A nurse and doctor on the flight helped deliver the baby, Joe Pentangelo, spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said.

The baby weighed 6 pounds and 5 ounces.

The mother and baby were taken to Jamaica Hospital after the aircraft landed at John F. Kennedy Airport around 7:30 p.m., Pentangelo said. Both appeared to be in good health.

The woman is a citizen of Jordan and was traveling alone, Pentangelo said.
