Suspect Charged With Hitting Officer With ATV In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect has been arrested and charged with slamming an all-terrain vehicle into an NYPD officer in the Bronx.

George Evangelista, 44, of the Bronx, was charged late Monday with assault, menacing, reckless endangerment, harassment, and other offenses, police said.

The officer was treated for scrapes and back and neck trauma and released from a hospital after the crash around 7 p.m. Saturday. It happened in front of 672 Hunts Point Ave. in the Bronx, police said.

Police say that the officer on duty and in was in uniform when the four-wheeled ATV hit him from behind at high speed.

The officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was treated and released, police said.
