Long Island Man Charged With Having Hundreds Of Fireworks

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man was arrested Saturday night after, police say, they found hundreds of illegal fireworks in front of his home.

After receiving complaints about fireworks, police responded to 307 W. Henrietta Ave., in Oceanside, where Joseph Tullo, 29, lives.

Cops found 539 mortar tubes loaded with shells set up in front of the house, CBS2's Steve Langford reports.

They also found 91 firework "cakes" -- multiple-tube devices generally packed with Roman candles or aerial shells.

But some of Tullo's neighbors can't say enough good things about the young man, Langford reported.

"The kid's a sweetheart, a sweetheart," said one neighbor.

Tullo was charged with storage of explosives, licenses and certificates. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Hempstead.
