Ocean County Officials Warn Of Lethal Batch Of Heroin

OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Officials are sounding the alarm about a bad batch of heroin circulating in Ocean County, N.J.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, despite heroin being available in highly concentrated forms, the spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Al Della Fave, said dealers are always looking to super-charge their product.

That was the case with the Hello Kitty stamped batch found with a dead 18-year-old last week in Stafford Township, Smith reported.

"We found out that it was almost entirely made of fentanyl, which is a very strong and potent opiate," Della Fave said.

The batch is so powerful, "It will almost certainly end in a death," he added.

Authorities are now asking for the public's help in tracking where the tainted heroin is coming from.
