NYPD: Woman Tries To Rob 90-Year-Old In Greenwich Village

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD says someone tried to rob an elderly woman in Greenwich Village on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman approached the 90-year-old female victim around noon near West 12th Street and Fifth Avenue.

The suspect came up to the elderly woman from behind and tried to snatch the victim's duffle bag from the front of her utility cart. When the 90-year-old woman fought back, the suspect pushed her to the ground and continued trying to rip the bag from her possession.

The suspect fled eastbound on East 12th Street after being unable to take the bag from the woman. The victim suffered lacerations to her right arm and right middle finger.

She was treated and released at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic woman, with a tattoo on her left arm. She was last seen wearing a black tank top, red pants, black shoes and carried a black purse.
