NYPD Officer On Disciplinary Trial Over Strip Search Of Woman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An NYPD officer was facing internal disciplinary charges Friday over the strip search of a woman in 2014.

Officer Shaquanna White appeared in a departmental trial Friday at 1 Police Plaza, after being charged with abusing her authority during a routine search.

Authorities say White stopped Tynneal Grant, 33, on suspicion of farebeating. In a stationhouse, they claim the officer forced Grant to undue her overalls, exposing her bare breasts and underwear.

Grant says she paid for the subway, but mistakenly entered the wrong platform and was switching sides when she encountered White. The arrest was later voided.

Police misconduct investigators believe White may have improperly searched suspects throughout her eight-year career. They want her to lose 30 vacation days.

White testified a strip search is when ``you expose someone's buttocks, genitalia.''
