NYPD Searching For Suspect Who Fatally Shot Man At Bronx Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are on the hunt for a suspect in a fatal shooting that took place in broad daylight in the Bronx.

According to authorities, 22-year-old Steven Maldonado was shot in the chest around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a discount store on Broadway in the Marble Hill section of the borough.

Surveillance video reportedly shows a man throwing open the door, lunging onto the sidewalk and shooting, according to the Daily News.

The victim then stumbled inside and collapsed.

Anna Concepcion said she was passing by when she saw Maldonado laying face-up on the floor, bleeding.

Concepcion said she answered his ringing phone and a woman on the other end was yelling "Was he shot?'' and "Is he dead?''

A paramedic who was headed to work said he heard three gunshots and rushed over to preform CPR. Ernest Perez said instinct told him to flee from the gunfire but instead he ran inside the store to help.

Maldonado was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police described the suspect as a black male, about 22 years old, 5'10", between 200 and 220 pounds with his hair braided.
