NYPD Releases Sketch Of Suspect Who Allegedly Attacked Cop On Subway Platform

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released a sketch of a man they say assaulted an off-duty NYPD detective Saturday.

The cop was in a medically induced coma Saturday night after being sucker-punched on a subway platform, police said. By Sunday night he had come out of the coma and was listed in critical but stable condition.

The NYPD told CBS 2 the officer was waiting for a southbound No. 6 train at 23rd Street and Park Avenue around 6:23 p.m. when the incident happened.

The 29-year-old officer fell to the ground and hit his head on the platform, causing bleeding on his brain, 1010 WINS reported.

The attacker was with two women, but was able to get away, CBS 2 reported.

The suspect is described as black, in his early 40s, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
