NYPD: Prisoner Escapes Custody At Hospital In Lower Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A prisoner escaped police custody while at a hospital in lower Manhattan Sunday, the NYPD confirmed.

Tiffany Neumann, 23, was arrested Saturday on petit larceny and possession of stolen property charges, police said.

Neumann was being held for arraignment when she complained of bruising and told police she was pregnant, sources said.

Neumann was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital Sunday night for an examination, sources said. She was was in an exam room when she managed to slip out of her handcuffs and run from the hospital at around 9:10 p.m., sources said.

Neumann is described as 5'5" tall and about 120 pounds. Despite telling police she was pregnant, it was determined that she is not, sources said.

She was last seen wearing a white hospital gown.

Police are searching the area.
