NYPD Officer Holds Toy Drive For Kids Living In Shelters

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's the season of giving and that's exactly what one New York City police officer is doing.

Officer Carlos Ramos spent Monday night wrapping toys he has collected for children living in shelters.

He's already gathered at least 200 toys.

Ramos said he got the idea to give back because he and his wife lived in and out of shelters growing up.

"It's important for us to give back because someone gave us an opportunity," Ramos said.

Ramos plans to deliver the gifts on Christmas Eve.

For anyone interested in helping, Ramos will be accepting donations for children ages 1 to 13 through Wednesday at the 145th and Saint Nicholas Avenue subway station.
