Driver Strikes NYPD Officer On Scooter Headed To Bronx Columbus Day Parade

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A police officer suffered a scary injury while heading to a Columbus Day Parade in the Bronx Sunday morning.

Police say the on-duty officer was driving a two wheeled scooter near East Tremont Avenue and East 180th Street in the Van Nest section when another vehicle struck one of the scooter's wheels.

The officer was rushed to NYC Health+Hospitals/Jacobi with a compound fracture to his ankle.

The crash remains under investigation.
