NYPD Nabs Suspect In Queens Attempted Rape Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD Special Victims Unit said it has apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with the attempted rape of a 15-year-old girl in Queens.

According to authorities, at around 11 p.m. on July 12 the suspect struck up a conversation with the victim near 109 Road and Farmers Boulevard.

The suspect then choked the victim until she passed out and attempted to rape her, police said.

On Saturday morning, the NYPD Special Victims Unit tweeted that it had the suspect in custody and thanked CBS New York for covering the story.

Police said 35-year-old Tafari Pottinger, of Queens, has been charged with attempted rape, assault and strangulation, 1010 WINS reported.
