Man Charged In Brooklyn Groping Incidents Involving Girls Ages 11, 14
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested and charged a man wanted for groping two young girls in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, the NYPD said.
Guillermo Tambriz, 21, of Brooklyn was charged Wednesday night with two counts of attempted sexual abuse and with acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, police said.
Earlier, police released surveillance video and a picture of the man they said assaulted an 11-year-old girl and 14-year-old girl within the last week. Both incidents occurred near Edward B. Shallow Intermediate School.
Neither victim was seriously hurt.
Detectives from the Brooklyn Child Abuse Squad were in the neighborhood Wednesday morning when they spotted a man wearing the exact same clothing as the suspect in the video, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported. He also had the same mannerisms.
Police said the man confessed to both incidents, D'Auria reported.
Before news of the arrest spread, people in the community had expressed concern over the incidents.
"There are a lot of children in this neighborhood," Bensonhurst resident Miriam Martinez told CBS2's Dave Carlin. "There are a lot of sick people in the world."
"It's terrible, this shouldn't be happening anywhere," resident Felicia Botelli told D'Auria. "I don't think that there's enough people looking out for one another in the neighborhood anymore."
