NYPD: Man Charged With DWI After Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The NYPD has made an arrest in the death of a 67-year-old pedestrian on Staten Island.

Police said James Benedict was walking in the bicycle lane on Lily Pond Avenue just before 7 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a Lexus.

Benedict was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Lexus -- 39-year-old Michael Pogorzelski -- was taken into custody at the scene and charged with DWI early Monday, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
