NYPD: Man Arrested In Assault On Off-Duty Officer Near Queens Supermarket

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an off-duty NYPD officer in Queens.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon near the Pathmark supermarket on Springfield Boulevard in Springfield Gardens.

The 42-year-old officer had just walked out of the store when, police said, 27-year-old Tommie Davis walked up to him and punched him multiple times in the face.

Davis took off with a woman in a white Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery for his injuries.

Davis was arrested Thursday and charged with assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
