Missing NYPD Officer Elisha Duncan Found Safe
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD officer was found safe Friday evening, after vanishing for two days.
Officer Elisha Duncan had last in contact with a family member on Wednesday, police said.
On Friday, he was located alone in his car in the Bronx and was in good health, police said.
Police knew what car he was driving and it was spotted, and he was inside, police sources told CBS2.
Police sources told CBS2 before Officer Duncan was found that he had recently collected money from fellow officers, which was intended for a group trip to see the Giants play in Seattle this weekend.
Duncan was then seen on surveillance video at the Empire Casino on Yonkers the day after he disappeared, but it was not clear if he had spent the money he collected, police sources said. A New York Daily News report said the money amounted to $600 per officer for the trip, and more than $40,000 in all.
Yonkers police told 1010 WINS they had earlier been asked by the NYPD to look for Duncan around the city – particularly near the casino.
Police could not say Friday evening whether the money was returned when Duncan was found.
Duncan was to go to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, sources told CBS2.
