NYPD lieutenant hit in head in alleged hit-and-run

NEW YORK -- An NYPD lieutenant was hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle at a checkpoint in Manhattan

Police say the lieutenant was at a vehicle checkpoint on 207th Street and 9th Avenue in Inwood around 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, the driver of a black Dodge Durango blew through the checkpoint, and the side view of the mirror hit the officer in the head.

The driver did not stop.

The lieutenant is expected to be OK.
