NYPD IDs Suspect Wanted In Attempted Murder Of Officer
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday identified a suspect wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a New York City police officer in Queens over the weekend.
According to authorities, a uniformed police sergeant and a police officer were responding to a report of a group of men trespassing in the rear of 93-35 Lamont Ave. around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday when they observed a male suspect armed with a gun chasing another man, firing at him near Lamont Avenue and Forley Street.
Police said the two got out of their marked police cruiser and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. That's when officials said the suspect turned to the sergeant and officer and fired at them.
Both returned fire, but did not strike the suspect, identified by police as 20-year-old Cristian Mosquera, before he fled the scene.
Police said the firearm used in the shooting, a .22 caliber handgun, was recovered at the scene.
A $12,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case, police said.
