NYPD: Homeless Man Charged In Robbery Of Pregnant Woman In West Village

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A homeless man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a pregnant woman in the West Village.

Melvin Johnson, 49, is charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the March 30 incident.

Johnson allegedly followed the 35-year-old pregnant woman into the Bank of America on Sixth Avenue near Eighth Street.

The woman reported that the suspect pulled out a sharp object and threatened her saying, "I'll cut you and your baby if you don't give me some money."

The victim withdrew $400 from the ATM and handed it over to Johnson, police said. The suspect fled leaving the woman physically unharmed.
