NYC's Outdoor Public Pools Open For The Summer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City's public outdoor pools are officially open for the summer.
City officials marked the opening with a ribbon cutting Friday at Crotona Park debuting its new $1.6 million poolside spray shower.

Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver did the honors and ended up getting his suit all wet, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

One 5-year-old named Yani was ready to jump in.

"It's cool," Yani said. "I like the pool the best."

There are 55 public outdoor pools in the city and swimming lessons at many of them are free. Pools are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sept. 1.
