Brooklyn School Janitor Charged With Sexual Assault

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn school janitor has been arrested, accused of raping a woman on campus, police said.

According to authorities, the adult victim went to a school in the Clinton Hill/Fort Greene section of Brooklyn to meet someone Saturday. That's when the janitor, Herman Zapata, attacked and raped the woman, investigators told CBS 2.

Zapata, 51, has been charged with criminal sexual act, sex abuse, sexual misconduct, unlawful imprisonment and assault.

The name of the school has been withheld to protect the victim's safety.

The city Department of Education told 1010 WINS the janitor was not a city employee, but was subcontracted by the school's custodian.
