NYC Heat Wave: Residents Have No Problem Waiting On Long Lines To Get Into A Pool

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Beating the heat has been a struggle for the past few days. Many people took advantage of extended hours at city beaches and pools.
Because New York City was under a heat advisory, city pools were to stay open an extra hour Sunday, until 8 p.m. And as CBS2's Lisa Rozner saw first hand, people used every minute they could to stay cool.
On Sunday morning, a line to get into the Olympic-size swimming pool in Astoria Park was very long, but those in need of a refreshing dip didn't mind.
"About 40 minutes. It wasn't too bad and the lines moving kinda quick," Forest Hills resident Kristine Quattrone said.
The wait, which swimmers experienced all weekend, was worth it. Some people said they waited two hours Saturday to swim at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Astoria resident Wayne Evans said he planned to stay at the pool until it closed.
"We're gonna get a little relief," he said.
But with the three-day streak of weather leaving people feeling sweaty and sticky, some wouldn't have it any other way.
"I finally got to let everything out. I don't know. It was like a weird feeling. Yeah, refreshing," 10-year-old Liliana Lijcaj said.
For those who didn't want to go outside, the city has set up roughly 500 cooling stations across all five boroughs for people looking to beat the heat.
There have also been some power outages throughout the city, on Long Island and in New Jersey.
