NYC Food Truck Lunch: The Heavenator From Frites 'N' Meats

Perry, the founder of New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City street food.

It's been a couple of years since we've been to Frites 'N' Meats, one of the pioneers of the NYC food truck scene. They have been on the street since Spring 2010, which means their 5th Anniversary is coming up in a few months.

One way to keep people coming back (besides good food, of course) is to refresh the menu every now and then. The Heavenator ($10) is one of the new specials we haven't had a chance to try yet.

The Heavenator is a burger made with Angus beef and topped with muenster cheese, applewood smoked bacon, Maker's Mark bourbon BBQ sauce and truffle butter. Sure sounds heavenly, but how did it taste?

The burger was cooked to medium with pink in the middle, just as we asked. Besides the beef, the first flavor to come through was the truffle butter, then the bacon. The bacon was thick, crispy and plentiful.

We expected the Maker's Mark bourbon BBQ sauce flavor to be a little stronger, but it did come through more towards the end of the burger.

There are a few choices of buns, and we got a brioche bun. It was soft and airy, but held together just fine.

The other half of Frites 'N' Meats are the frites, which are served Belgian-style in a large cone. It's $3.50 for a large portion of double-fried frites. The double-frying gives them a crispy exterior, with a soft and warm interior. These are among the best street fries in the city.

The fries are served with a mildly-spicy chipotle mayo dipping sauce, and there are other dipping sauces you can get for $.50 each.

If you're looking for a good burger and fries for lunch, Frites 'N' Meats is a fine choice. They even give you a free Dum Dum lollipop for dessert.

The Frites 'N' Meats truck parks at regular spots in different parts of Manhattan. Check out where on Twitter here, on Facebook here, or on their website here.
